How To Check If Your Water Is Fit to Drink.....

TDS (“Total Dissolved Solids”) meters measure the electrical conductivity of water. Pure water is a poor conductor, but dissolved solids carry a distinct electrical charge that correlates directly to TDS levels. The greater the charge — the higher the level of dissolved solids. Aao Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye.....

The biggest festival of Hindus Diwali, which we excitedly wait for the whole year to come. All houses decorated with lights, rangoli and toran gives it a special touch. And not to forget different mithai/sweets and food. I specially love home made besan ladoos, kupdi, mathi, Gujiya's made by my mom and also the Ghari, which many of us dont know in North India as its a speciality from Gujurat specially made in this season only.

Kupdi

Gujias

Besan Ladoos

Kesar Badam Pista Ghari made from milk, sugar, elaichi, kesar, almonds, pistachios, nuts, gram flour, wheat flour, ghee

The entrance of the house is decorated with toran (hanging of Ashoka or Mango leaves). It is considered extremely auspicious as it is believed that it keeps the evil spirits and negative energy at a bay. It is also believed that tying the leaves can make the house owner's desires come true.Green color of the leaves is so soothing and refreshing to the mind which helps to lower anxiety.Air is purified when it is filtered through the leaves.Green leaves absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This helps in keeping the surrounding atmosphere clean and hygienic.

Toran made from Ashoka Leaves

Ashoka is a Sanskrit word which means “without sorrow”or Tree of Happiness. The tree is acclaimed as woman-friendly as it can drive away all the pain and sorrow of the woman through its capability of gifting good health.

The Ashoka tree is worshipped in the Chaitra month, the first month of the Hindu calendar by Hindus. In Ramayana, Sita Mata was brought to Ashoka Vatika, Lanka by Ravana. Lord Hanuman first met Sita Mata in Ashoka Vatika, the garden of Ashoka trees.

Astrology has great significance of Ashoka tree:

 - The tree takes away the pain and sorrow of the individual and brings name, fame, and prosperity in    his/her life.

- Ashoka tree is used to solve the money problem, marriage problem and minimize Mangal dosha and to perform spiritual practices.

 - Remedial Solutions for the individuals who are facing money problem is to grow Ashoka tree in the garden of the house and pour water daily.

- Bring the roots of the tree on Sunday and do Abhishek of Gangajal on the roots. After that, the roots should be kept in a safe place. By doing so the way of success gets open for individuals.

- Another powerful tip from Expert Astrologers to solve marriage problems is to bring 7 leaves of the Ashoka tree and keep it in the temple of the house and sprinkle sandal water on it. The leaves have to be kept under the Peepal tree on the next day. After this, you need to bring another seven leaves. This process has to be continued for 40 days. By doing this you would probably see the change in your married  life or the problem of delay in marriage can be resolved.

- Offering the bark of the Ashoka tree to Lord Hanuman every Tuesday would likely minimize Mangal Dosha present in the Janampatri of an individual.

 - You are likely to see success in life if you chant mantra sitting in the east direction under the Ashoka tree.

 - If you light a ghee lamp under this tree, it is likely to attract good health and wealth in your life.

You would have a positive atmosphere in the house by hanging the Toran of the Ashoka leaves on the main door. This is why the Toran of Ashoka leaves is hung on the main door of the house before performing puja or during the auspicious ceremony.

Anant Chaturdashi popularly known as Anant Chaudas. The sacred day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is called as the Lord of several avatars and the preserver of the universe.
19th September 2021 Lord Ganesha bids adieu to Earth, and Lord Ganesha devotees perform visarjan puja with a promise that Ganpati Bappa will return next year.

Anant Chaturdashi is the most significant day to worship Lord Vishnu in Anant form.Ananta in Sanskrit means eternal or endless.
On this day, devotees observe a day-long fast and tie a sacred thread 'Anant Sutra' to seek blessings for a prosperous and peaceful life.

Know your Rights

2020 was the most weird and unexpected year for all since it was the start of a never ending pandemic Covid 19.But as soon as the lockdown lifted there was a big wave of construction work seen in our neighborhood. If you are facing the same and experienced some upheavals due to that, then do know about your rights.

Construction near your home can be a headache. From early-morning drilling to blocked sidewalks and street lanes, many residents are inconvenienced by it.

If you live in a flat or in duplex sharing common walls. And If during the construction work done by your neighbor and your property gets damaged, you can ask them to compensate for the loss suffered by you but if your neighbor refuses to pay you the amount then you can file a case under
Section 425 of IPC which states that whoever with intent to cause, or knowing that he is likely to cause, wrongful loss or damage to the public or to any person, causes the destruction of any property, or any such change in any property or in the situation thereof as destroys or diminishes its value or utility, or affects it injuriously, commits mischief.
You can file suit for declaration and mandatory injunction in a civil court as well.
You can claim damages in the same suit.

So next time you get your work done or a makeover become a responsible citizen and don't harass your neighbor.Involve them and discuss your plans in advance with them so that things work out peacefully without any fights, quarrels and disputes.

Summer's great pleasures

Homemade Mango Ice Cream

I love winters and monsoon, specially I like the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil.I cant stand the heat of summers. But I enjoy summer's fruits like musk melon, water melon and specially mangoes.

Mangoes are the king of fruits. No doubt. There are so many varieties of mangoes and each have a distinct taste.Different states have different mango varieties and all are unique and delicious.

I made this mango ice cream at home for my loved ones and this time I used two varieties of mangoes. Safeda and Totapari which is tangy yet sweet. It is very flavorful, although the sweetness is less.

The result was awesome, the flavors were just perfect and mouthwatering so if next time you are making mango ice cream at home add these two varieties of mangoes and enjoy.

Holika Dahan

Happy Holi !!!

Like last year this year also there are restrictions on the Holi celebrations due to covid.

Holika Dahan is performed to mark victory of good over evil.

It is beleived that King Hiranyakashyap asked his sister Holika for help, who had a special garment that prevented her from being harmed by fire. She sat on a bonfire with Prahlad, as the fire ignited, the garment flew from Holika and covered Prahlad. Holika was burnt to death, Prahlad came out unharmed.

Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha - half human and half lion, at dusk (when it was neither day nor night), took Hiranyakashyap at a doorstep (which was neither indoors nor outdoors), placed him on his lap (which was neither land, water nor air), and then killed the king with his lion claws (which were neither a handheld weapon nor a launched weapon).

Lets pray together that all our evils, ego and bad habits and negativity burn in this holy fire forever. We and our loved ones live a happy and prosperous life.

Ponk Wadas

Ponk wadas yes....sounds interesting.

Ponk is the fresh Jowar grains and Ponk Wadas are the wadas made with jowar grains. Its the most healthy snacks in Surat. This green tender Jowar (sorghum) grain is available only during winter season in Surat, I have been told. There are numerous stalls specially selling these Ponk wadas there. No I did not travel to Surat for this but a very dear friend of mine specially sent this from Surat to me in Delhi. My friend specially arranged this pack of Ponk (sorghum), which is generally exported. Come lets explore how it was packed as the whole process was educating, exciting and very interesting.

I received it in this cloth bag.

Inside the cloth bag the sorghum were nicely mixed and packed with good quality wheat flour in a paper bag. This keeps the grain fresh and tender. And it can last for few days.

Then I nicely sieved the sorghum and separated the atta and then washed it repeatedly with water until its clean.

After cleaning is done it can be eaten as such (the taste is good) or as bhel or as wadas. Like I made it.And trust me the taste was very special, which I have not tasted before ever. Its simply awesome and delicious. I am blessed to have such a caring friend, Thanks !!!
